Researchers from the University of Humanistic Studies and teachers at mboRijnland are conducting an educational design study, investigating how teachers can promote belief in one's own abilities among mbo Rijnland students.
Freedom and equality in education: desirable principles according to citizens and education professionals
The freedoms and responsibilities of schools in the Netherlands are defined in Article 23 of the Constitution. A relevant question for politics and society today is whether the article is still in line with current views on good education and developments in society.
Room for rituals in secondary education
In this study we explore what types of rituals public VO schools in the Netherlands organize, what they think is desirable and what concerns teachers and school leaders encounter in relation to organising rituals in their schools.
Project Woke and Resistance
In the 'Woke en Weerstand' project, students and staff come together to discover how to work together as agonists (critical cooperatives), rather than as distrustful antagonists.
Modelling Bildung in prevocational secondary education
This one-and-a-half-year project aims to encourage teachers in pre-vocational secondary schools (vmbo) to make their class and school a place where pupils can experience Bildung. Another goal is to investigate how teachers put Bildung into practice and what pupils notice about their efforts.

Researchers from the Marnix Academie, iPabo and UvH are conducting research into the professionalisation of teachers with regard to culturally-responsive and connection-oriented education.
Consultancy on civic education for Curriculum.nu (completed)
The chair group Education is involved in the working group of Curriculum.nu which deals with the improvement of citizenship education.
Entanglement: Essays on a unifying humanism
In 2019, VUB and UvH organised a conference focusing on themes from William Connolly's work. As a follow-up, this book project further develops his idea of 'entangled humanism'.
Waardenwijs, a survey of the values that parents instil in their children (completed)
In this study, carried out by researchers from the UvH at the request of the Humanistisch Verbond and child care organisation Humankind, we investigated the values of parents.
The world in the classroom (completed)
In this two-year research and development project, colleagues from the iPabo, UvH and the Marnix Academy researched the knowledge, skills and qualities of primary school teachers to turn classes in which children of newcomers enter into learning groups.
Focus on democracy and tolerance in secondary education in all EU countries (completed)
The research consists of a study of policy in all EU countries and case studies in 11 European countries on the practice of paying attention to values such as democracy and tolerance.
Do mock elections in school help young adults to develop well-considered voting behaviour? (completed)
Many schools in the Netherlands organise student elections prior to (inter)national and local elections. By doing so, they hope to increase young people's involvement in democracy and the rule of law. To what extent is this successful? Take a look at the research of Isolde de Groot and Bram Eidhof.
