Dr. Inge van Nistelrooij
Assistant Professor of Care Ethics
Inge van NIstelrooij (1967) has been a care ethicist ever since she graduated cum laude in Theology on a doctoral thesis on care ethics in 1995. Her supervisor was Annelies van Heijst. Her thesis was awarded with the university's women's emancipation award (named after Fokkelien van Dijk-Hemmes) and published as a book, 'Martha and Maria revisited. Care as ethical perspective' (Tilburg University Press, 1996, sold out). After having worked as a professional in several ecclesial organizations, she became an ethics trainer and ethics policy advisor in (health) care institutions as well as informal care organizations. She published two often reprinted books for which she drew upon this work, before returning to academia. She successfully applied for the funds for her PhD study. In 2014 she defended her PhD thesis on self-sacrifice,that was published as 'Sacrifice' by Peeters Publishers in Leuven (2015). After this she continued to publish on sacrifice, relationality and care ethics.
