“A transformative experience, both academically and personally”

Fabiana Torres Xavier, PhD student from Brazil

“My experience as a visiting PhD student at the University of Humanistic Studies was undoubtedly one of the most striking ones in my academic and personal career. From the first day, I felt welcomed by both the institution and the city.

I had the chance to participate in courses taught in English, conducted by extremely qualified teachers and open to dialogue. The classes were always interactive, with space for discussion and exchange of experiences between students from different cultural and academic backgrounds - something that greatly broadened my perspective on my research.

The support offered by the UvH international office was excellent at all stages, from the initial procedures to my daily life at university. Whenever I needed guidance or practical help, I received quick and careful attention, which made all the difference to my adaptation.

The university campus is welcoming, with a quiet atmosphere and great spaces for study. It is an environment that inspires concentration and reflection. Outside of university, Utrecht turned out to be a charming city - full of life, rich in history, with beautiful canals, cozy cafes, and a vibrant cultural programme. On weekends, I took the opportunity to explore its museums and parks, and get to know other nearby cities.

In short: This international experience was transformative, both academically and personally.”
