Obtaining your PhD at the UvH
Becoming an employed PhD candidate
Are you a young academic with a (research) Master's degree in Humanities or Social Sciences and wish to develop an academic career? Is your research focus compatible with our research program Meaningful Life in a Just and Caring Society? Then becoming an employed PhD candidate might be the right choice for you. An employee PhD candidate is appointed by the university for either 38 hours or 32 hours a week. The appointment lasts four to five years. The PhD position is financed via external sponsors (NWO, Zon-MW, the EU, or other funds or social organizations). Vacancies are published here.
Is there an opportunity for a PhD scholarship or other funding for your PhD research? Are you looking for a supervisor who can support your application? Please visit our Research webpage and contact the relevant Research Chair.
Becoming an external PhD candidate
Are you a professional aiming at enhancing your knowledge and career with scientific research? Do you already have research and reporting experience? Is your research focus compatible with our research program Meaningful Life in a Just and Caring Society? And are you available for at least two days a week to follow your PhD research next to your job? If so, the UvH may be the place for you. Please see which research themes are open for new PhD research in the coming academic year.
To be enrolled at the UvH Graduate School, you will follow an assessment procedure. If selected, you will be admitted to the first year of the Graduate School's training and supervision program. The program starts each year in the last week of August.
