Admission, application and registration

Prospective students

The UvH Graduate School offers a PhD programme to those researchers and professionals (usually in care, education, social work and non-profit organizations), who want to focus on the meaning and further in-depth exploration of their profession.  Currently, students have a professional background as educational or care specialist, manager of profit or non-profit organization, consultant, HRM professional or with a general interest in organizational development.

Application and assessment

The assessment procedure will take place in September and October of 2014. The assessment consists of two parts:

1. Application forms have to be sent in before the 10th of September 2014 12.00 PM. Based on the application form, the formal requirements for admission will be checked. You will be notified before September 20th 2014 if the formal requirements are met.

Note: we expect candidates to have obtained a MA or Drs degree. We also expect candidates to have some research and writing experience in the last 2 to 5 years.
Also note: more and more, PhD dissertations consist of a collection of academically reviewed and partly published articles. In 2015, at least 75% of the PhD theses will have to consist of such a collection of articles. This implies that less than 25% of the PhD dissertations will be monographs. Dissertations written in English are preferred.
Also, each candidate has to publish at least two articles in an internationally peer reviewed journal, including the students writing a monograph.
If you consider these terms too ambitious, then enrolling for our course ‘Academisch schrijven voor professionals’ might be a more suitable option. Please refer to the website of Zingeving & Professie for more information on this programme (in Dutch).

2. If the formal requirements are met, you will be invited for the assessment procedure by e-mail 20th of September 2014 at the latest. Further information on this procedure will be given to you in this e-mail. Please note that you will be asked to write a short essay before October 3rd. Instructions for this essay will not be given before September 20th, so you need to save some time in the week before October 3rd.

The annual programme fees are twice the legally established tuition fees for Bachelor and Master students. For the study year 2015 the fees will be € 3,812,- (2 x €1,906).
