My Humanism #2: Mardjan Seighali
After the successful first edition of the My Humanism conversation series in May, the second meeting will follow on Thursday evening, Oct. 3, with guest Mardjan Seighali, president of the Humanist Alliance.
In a cafeteria transformed into a café, she will tell how humanism inspires her in daily life and in important life choices. Finally, she will ask a stimulating question, about which the audience will discuss in groups.
Mardjan Seighali grew up in Iran and fled with her family to the Netherlands in 1990. After studying social work and services, she held various administrative positions, including as director of the Foundation for Refugee Students UAF. In 2019, she received the Comenius Prize for "her commitment, willpower and inspiring leadership. About her life history, she published in 2021 the book Tot op de dag.
In September 2021, Mardjan Seighali was a speaker at the opening of the academic year of the University of Humanistics. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of allowing time for life questions that humanists face in their work. Life questions "call for rest, reflection and, yes, sometimes perhaps a moment's pause. They are rich and profound and can cause us to learn more and more to combine quick zeal with slow precision.'
Please mark October 3 in your calendar. Registration starts in early September.
The meeting is open to all interested parties.
