Opening of the Academic Year 2018 with Minister of Education Arie Slob
28 augustus 2018
The University of Humanistic Studies opens the new academic year on Monday 3 September with a conference on Education in schools: on wishes and limitations. The guest speaker is the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Media, Arie Slob, who is currently working on a legislative proposal on the subject of civic education.
Education is not just a matter of knowledge transfer, but also contributes to students’ personal, moral and political development. But there are different views on the goals and desired content of such development. The government expects schools to instil the values of democracy and the rule of law. What does this mean for schools, in practical terms? What can, should and may their own contribution be?
