English biography

Simon van der Weele is a philosopher and qualitative researcher. He received his BA degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences at Tilburg University, and a research MA degree in Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam. Simon draws on his expertise in critical theory, ethics of care and disability studies to probe themes of intellectual disability, dependency and care.


Simon's dissertation is an empirical-philosophical project on dependency and care for people with intellectual disabilities. His project is supervised by Evelien Tonkens, Carlo Leget, and Femmianne Bredewold. The project is co-funded by the Dutch Ministry of Health (VWS).
