MS and uncertainty: the development of a tool
- Start: October 2020 – September 2024
- Status: completed
Healthcare providers mainly focus on the rational aspects of medication use: what options are available, what are the percentages in terms of efficacy and what are the possible side effects? There seems to be less attention for the human aspects of having to live with a chronic disease and the uncertainty that comes with it, even with medication use. There is insufficient room for the emotions, feelings and experiences of people with MS.
Description
A tool could support people with MS and their healthcare providers in the use of medication. This tool should ensure that uncertainty can be recognised and acknowledged. The researchers will examine what this tool will look like during the study. It could be an app, a website, a list of topics for the consultation room or a workshop, for example.
Participants will be recruited through three MS centres in the Netherlands. They will be followed for two years and will have six measurement moments. These moments consist of appointments at the hospital and interviews. In the third year of the study, the tool will be developed and implemented in collaboration with an MS centre based on the results.
