Profile

Yvonne Leeman is an educational sociologist with a particular focus on interethnic relations, diversity issues, and the development of teachers’ professional identities. Since the 1980s, she has worked in educational research, first at the University of Amsterdam and, since 2009, at the University of Humanistic Studies. She combined her university work with the position of professor of “Pedagogical Quality of Education” at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in Zwolle. She enjoys conducting research on educational improvement in collaboration with teachers. She is active in advising teachers, school leaders, and local and (inter)national public organizations, and serves as a panel member for the NQA. She participates in international networks and is responsible for the “social justice and intercultural education” network of the European Educational Research Association (EERA).

Current research projects: 
Supervising doctoral research on:  collaboration between teachers and parents on child-rearing in elementary education; pedagogical ideals of students in teacher-training programs; humanistic character education in elementary school; attendance in secondary education. 
In addition, she participates in an international project under the auspices of the EERA on the intercultural professionalism of education professionals and in the “normative professionalization” network of lecturers active within Waardenwerk.
