Sterre Hoenderop

Profile

Sterre Hoenderop-Gielen studied Educational Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. She completed this program with an attitude study in Mumbai, India. After working as an educationalist and psychomotor child therapist, both in her private practice and in youth care, she has been a Lecturer in Pedagogy at HZ University of Applied Sciences since 2020.

In 2022, Sterre started doctoral research at the University for Humanistic Studies and the HZ Research Group Excellence and Innovation in Education, focusing on how learning about meaning in work can contribute to the resilience of new youth professionals.

Following a scoping review into the relationship between resilience and meaning in work among youth professionals, students, new and experienced youth professionals, managers, and young professionals who had dropped out of youth care were interviewed on the same subject in a practical exploration. Based on these results, an educational intervention has been developed in close collaboration with the professional field through a participatory design-oriented study to strengthen the meaning-based resilience of novice youth professionals. The impact of the educational intervention on fourth-year Pedagogy students and novice youth professionals (with less than three years of work experience) is currently being investigated.
