Profile

I am an external PhD candidate at the University of Humanistic Studies, affiliated with the research programme Citizenship and Humanisation of the Public Sector. I am also a lecturer and researcher at HAN University of Applied Sciences, in the Master International Social Work and the research group Strengthening Social Quality.

My PhD research, From Case to Cause: Politicisation in Social Work, looks at how social workers interpret the social problems they encounter in everyday practice. I am especially interested in when and how these interpretations connect individual cases to structural injustice. The project combines ethnographic fieldwork with participatory action research, carried out together with social work organisations in the Netherlands. With this research I hope to contribute to debates on politicisation, social justice and the political role of social work.
