Scientific integrity

The university considers it of great importance that research is conducted in accordance with the principles and standards set out in the Dutch Code of Conduct for Scientific Integrity. At the bottom of this page, you can download the various regulations that support this code of conduct.

Complaints procedure

A complaints procedure sets out the steps to be taken if there is a suspicion that a university employee has failed to comply with the principles laid down in the above-mentioned code of conduct.

Prof. Anja Machielse is the Confidential Advisor on Scientific Integrity (Vertrouwenspersoon Wetenschappelijke Integriteit, VWI). She is the first point of contact for questions and complaints about scientific integrity and can be reached at VWI@uvh.nl.

Any formal complaints must be submitted to the Executive Board. The Board will then submit the complaint to the Scientific Integrity Committee of Dutch Universities with a Religious or Philosophical Character (Commissie Wetenschappelijke Integriteit Nederlandse Levensbeschouwelijke Universiteiten, CWI) for advice. Based on the committee’s advice, the Board will formulate a preliminary judgement.

Complainants and defendants may then request that the Netherlands Board on Research Integrity (Landelijk Orgaan voor Wetenschappelijke Integriteit, LOWI) assess whether the complaints procedure was conducted properly, whether standards of research integrity were violated and, if so, how the violation should be classified. The Executive Board will take the LOWI’s advice into account in its final decision. The anonymised file will then be published on our Dutch website.

Data management

In accordance with the duties of care for universities set out in the code of conduct, careful data management is well established. The Privacy Statement for Research Projects applies to the processing of data collected in the context of research. Research participants who have questions about the processing of their data can contact the researcher named in the information letter.

If, as a research participant, you wish to exercise the rights referred to in the above privacy statement and are unable to reach a satisfactory agreement with the researchers, please contact the university’s Privacy Officer at privacyofficer@uvh.nl. If you wish to submit a formal complaint about the use of your personal data, please contact the Data Protection Officer at FG@privaty.nl.

Ethical review

Research plans are assessed in advance by the university’s Ethics Review Committee (Ethische Toetsingscommissie, ETC). The committee assesses, for example, whether the rights, safety and well-being of research participants are guaranteed. The university also has a Sensitive Partnerships Committee (Commissie Sensitieve Samenwerkingsverbanden).

Ancillary activities

In accordance with the duties of care for universities as described in the code of conduct, the university has a sectoral regulation regarding ancillary activities.
