We make the difference

Evaluation of a citizenship programme at MBO Rijnland, aimed at strengthening belief in one’s own abilities

Researchers from the University of Humanistic Studies and teachers from MBO Rijnland are conducting an educational design study to investigate how teachers can promote belief in one’s own abilities among students at MBO Rijnland.

Description

In this two-year mixed-method research and development project, staff at the University of Humanistic Studies are investigating how teachers can promote self-efficacy among students at MBO Rijnland. The research is being conducted in collaboration with Jaap Kraak, teacher-researcher at the MBO Rijnland Research Lab.

The project is a follow-up to a previous one-year design study in which we developed and formatively evaluated a teaching programme aimed at promoting the social and political belief in their own abilities among MBO students.

In this study, we therefore explore which rituals public secondary schools in the Netherlands organise, what they consider desirable in this context, and which points of attention teachers and school leaders identify in relation to organising rituals in their school. We are curious to find out to what extent rituals at public secondary schools contribute to personal development and community building.

The study comprises the following components:
