Eva Mulder

Eva Mulder is a victimologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Humanistic Studies, affiliated with the department of Citizenship and Humanization of the Public Sector. She holds a PhD from Tilburg University (2021) and previously held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Her research centers on how people experience, communicate, and make sense of harm, with a particular focus on forms of violence and injustice that are subtle, ambiguous, or contested, such as certain forms of sexual transgression and microaggressions. A second thread concerns the social construction of victimhood: how norms, stereotypes, and cultural narratives shape who counts as a legitimate victim and how their experiences are interpreted. A third interest is how social environments and institutions respond to victims, from everyday blame and disbelief to formal recognition by authorities. Across these themes, she is drawn to qualitative and narrative approaches, including narrative victimology.
