Professionalisation of teachers with respect to culturally responsive and unifying education (completed)
- Duration: 2019-2020
- Status: completed
Researchers of the Marnix Academie, the iPabo and the University of Humanistic Studies are studying the professionalisation of teachers with respect to culturally responsive and unifying education.
Description
This one-year qualitative research project, performed by colleagues of the Marnix Academie, iPabo and the University of Humanistic Studies, examines teachers’ knowledge and skills with respect to offering culturally responsive and unifying education, and the changes occurring in such knowledge and skills after following the post-initial programme of Specialist Nieuwkomeronderwijs (SNKO; Specialist Newcomer Education).
This research has three goals:
- To further understand the current and desirable contributions of the teacher trainers and teachers involved in the post-initial programme of ‘specialist newcomer education’ to offering culturally and pedagogically responsive education to newcomer pupils, with an emphasis on bonding.
- To arrive at a shared evaluation of the existing contributions of the teacher trainers and teachers involved in the post-initial programme of ‘specialist newcomer education’ to offering culturally and pedagogically responsive education to newcomer pupils, with an emphasis on bonding, as revealed in the current continued professional education programme. What are the strong points and where is room for improvement, which could be addressed by the post-initial education programme, viewed within the framework of culturally and pedagogically responsive and unifying education.
- To contribute to theory development in respect of the pedagogical professionalisation of teachers by connecting the concept of bonding from an earlier CEPM study to theory building with regard to newcomer and culturally responsive education.
