Admission, application and registration

All candidates have to be in possession of a MA or Drs degree. We also expect candidates to have some research and writing experience in the last 2 to 5 years. Please note that PhD students will have to publish at least two articles in an international peer reviewed journal. Many PhD theses will consist of a collection of academic peer-reviewed articles. 


The candidates must be able to spend at least two full days (16 hours) a week on their PhD research.


To be admitted to the graduate school, there is an assessment procedure.

The deadline for application is 1 April 2019.

The assessment procedure for the academic year 2019-2020 starts on the 1st of December 2018.

General information

The assessment procedure consists of two parts: application period and assessment.

The candidates can apply to the Graduate School in the period  between 1/12/2018 - 1/04/2019. The application period closes on the 1st of April 2019, at 15.00 (Amsterdam time zone). 

The assessment will take place between 1/04/2019 and 31/05/2019. In June 2019 the applicants will be informed whether they are admitted to the Graduate School of the UvH.

Application period

In order to apply to the Graduate School of the UvH the candidate submits the application form that can be downloaded MS Word filehere On the first page of the application form you will find information about the documents that must be submitted together with your application. All documents must be submitted as one PDF file digitally via: gs@UvH.nl

Any additional documents will not be considered.   In order to fill in the application form correctly please consult the page Available research topics and research fields which will be online from the first of December 2018.

After your eligibility for the PhD study at the Graduate School has been confirmed, you will receive instructions regarding the assessment procedure.

Assessment

The assessment takes place between 1/04/2019 and 31/05/2019.

The candidates whose documents are excepted will receive the timetable of the assessment procedure in the first week of March. Please be aware that during the assessment procedure all candidates will be asked to submit a short description of their research topic called Project Idea (800-1200 words).


The decision about admission will be communicated in the first week of June 2019.
