Start of education largely physical at UvH

23 August 2021

During the press conference on Friday, 13 August 2021, the government announced that higher education institutions can be reopened for the most part. It is a huge relief for everyone that we can receive and give physical education again, that the students can have normal contact with each other and with the teachers. There are, however, conditions attached to this reopening.

Education: physical and online

Most of the education can take place physically, students and staff find more information on the intranet. There is a maximum of 75 students per room (excluding teachers and other supervisors). This extension is possible because the 1.5 metre distance rule within a classroom has been abolished. However, students and teachers must wear a mouth mask when moving around in the building and follow the indicated walking routes.

Canteen and opening hours

The canteen will reopen from 30 August. The maximum number of people in the canteen will also be 75. There will be 60 chairs in the canteen, because people have to be able to walk in and out to the coffee machine. Students can come and study at the UvH again. The opening hours of the building will return to normal, i.e. the building will be open:

Monday 8.30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Tuesday 8.30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday 8.30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Thursday 8.30 a.m.9:30 p.m.

Friday 8.30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Urgent advice: Get vaccinated!

We urge our students and staff to get vaccinated: Are you going to study? Get vaccinated! You can come to the Jaarbeurs without an appointment, from the beginning of the academic year it is also possible to get vaccinated at the Science Park. Check the website of the GGD for the details. We follow the guidelines of the government and RIVM, so we will not check for vaccinations, but we do insist very strongly on it. For students who run a health risk because of the extensions, we will of course look for appropriate solutions in consultation with the study advisors and lecturers.

Other guidelines

The following guidelines remain in force:

  •  Twice a week students and staff members do a self-test before coming to the UvH. In case of a positive result, you should have a test done at the GGD to rule out that you are carrying the virus. This applies to everyone, regardless of whether or not you have been vaccinated. Self-tests will be available at the reception desk in the first week of the academic year, after that students and staff can request them themselves via
  • We follow the RIVM guidelines on ventilation. This means that the windows are open in all rooms.
  • The basic rule is to observe all hygiene measures: if you are ill, stay at home, cough and sneeze at the elbow, wash your hands, keep a distance of 1.5 metres where possible, do not shake hands, etc.

These rules apply at least until 30 September 2021, when it will be clear whether the government will announce new adjustments.

During the press conference on Friday, 13 August, it was announced that higher education institutions can be reopened for the most part! However, there are conditions attached to this reopening, which are valid from 30 August until at least 30 September.
