Prof. Dr. Joan Tronto

Prof. Tronto is probably best known for her work Moral Boundaries: a political argument for an ethic of care. When asked in an interview for the most important thing she has learned from the ethics of care, she replies: 'It is important to realize that we are receivers as well as givers of care, acted upon as well as agents. This is a difficult position to understand politically, but strength and human cooperation can arise from our recognition of our mutual interdependence.'

Important publications: Moral Boundaries: A Political Argument for an Ethic of Care (Routledge, 1993), 226 pp. and the recently published Caring Democracy: Markets, Equality, and Justice (New York University Press, 2013), 228 pp.
